It's Our Turn!

This week, our blog will be the focus for our Quadblogging group.  The classes from Gisborne, New Zealand, Formby, England and Norwich, England will be stopping by our blog to learn more about us and to leave a comment or two.

So welcome to our new global friends!  We hope you enjoy seeing what we are learning in our SAGE classes.  Be sure and visit each of our class blogs, Rotations A, B, C, D & E.  You will find the links to our blogs on the right side of this page.

We are curious about you and wondered what are some of your favorite books?  What sports do you like to play?  And finally, do you have a favorite school lunch?

We look forward to hearing from you,

Your Kansas City SAGE Friends

  1. Dear children,
We are really excited about looking at your blogging page this week! We didn't know where Kansas was so we enjoyed looking at a map of the USA to see where you are. The children would like to know what it is like living in Kansas? We bet the weather is better there than the UK!

  2. Hello from the children in Gisborne.
Kansas City looks really huge. How many people live in your city? In Gisborne there are 40,000 people. We don't have a huge city with sky scrapers like you. Our tallest building is only 3 stories high!

  3. What do we have in our lunch boxes?
We sometimes have .... popcorn, bisuits (cookies), apples, bananas, oranges, chips/crisps, ham, yogurt, grapes, mandarins, kiwi, strawberries, apricots, carrot sticks, pears, plums, cherries, crackers and cheese, salad, chicken and water.

We also have different sandwiches. Things we like on our sandwiches are cheese and humus, peanut butter, jam, vegemite, luncheon, honey, butter, steak, ham, pork, mayonaise and tomatoes. We don't have all of those things in our sandwich at once!!

We LOVE to have a shared lunch too. We all bring something delicious to share with the rest of the class. It is always delicious!

  4. Our favorite books.

We LOVE Charlie and Lola books. We have been reading books about Elmer the Elephant and made a huge display for our class. Have a look at our blog so you can see it!

Room One kids are really great at reading. Some of us can read chapter books and we are only 5 years old!

We love reading lots of different books.

We are learning how to use information books to help us with our learning.

  7. Dear Miss Grant & the Boys and Girls at St. Luke's School.

Thank you for checking our blog! We are excited you came to visit. We noticed there was a misunderstanding. We really live in the state of Missouri. Our city is called Kansas City, Missouri. The city is really big and some of it is also in Kansas City, Kansas. So there are really two different Kansas City's.

Right now our weather is really pretty now. Yesterday was the first day of fall. In the fall, the leaves on the trees change colors and then they begin to fall off. Is it fall in the UK right now? Does it get cold in the UK? Do your trees change colors in the fall?

Good bye, we hope you are having a good school year. We want to share our learning with you and we want to be your friends.

  8. Hi William,
We are so glad you took the time to post your comment! I am going to put a couple of maps on this blog to show you more about where we live. Later this week, I'll make a video with some pictures from around our school. I hope you have time to drop by to see it.

  9. Dear Anonymous,

When you post, consider leaving just your first name. That will let us respond directly to you about your comments. We know it takes time and effort to leave a comment. We hope you know how much we appreciate that you did leave a comment.

We think our school is pretty wonderful. Briarcliff is a great school, but I really think what the boys and girls love isn't the school itself, but the friends they have here and the opportunity they have to learn new things.

That means, it wouldn't matter if we lived in Canada, or the UK, or New Zealand or anywhere else. All we need are good friends and a chance to learn together. Now we get to do that with you! That is pretty powerful and very special.

I am hoping we can visit your class on a Skype video call sometime. Your teacher and I will have to figure out the details and see if we can make it happen.

So can you tell me, what do you like to learn? Do you have any special friends in your class? Do you have a favorite topic about which you love to learn?

I hope we can talk again soon,

    Mrs. Koch

  20. Dear Boys & Girls from the Nightingale School,

In our room, we only have four student station computers. We have 3 old TV's with VHS recorders built in to watch videos. The TV's look like computer monitors. I wish we had more laptop computers and I would give anything to have iPads for my students. You can do some wonderful projects with an iPad. It will be fun to watch your blog to see what projects you are doing with your new technology.

How many iPads will you have in your class? How do you use your iPads?

Have a great week and thank you for taking the time to post a comment.

I do not know that book. Can you tell me more about it? This week I am reading Scardy Squirrel to the boys and girls. I love this story. The character is really cute and he makes me laugh. He is always trying to be perfect. It is a great story to teach us that we do not have to be perfect and that we just can't plan for every thing.

  40. Dear Mrs Koch and children,

We have really enjoyed reading your replies to our messages! We had another look at a map of the USA and found where you really are - the children are amazed at how big your country is compared to ours! The weather where we are has started to turn cold and it is becoming more and more like Autumn here. We are excited though as that means we can celebrate Harvest, Bonfire Night and we are getting closer to one of our favourite times of year, Christmas!

  41. Dear Children,

It’s exciting to see all of the things that you have in common and to see you asking questions to learn more about each other. Were any of you surprised by how many things in common that you had? Nathan and I found that the comment by Room One Gisborne listing all of the fruits and vegetables they like in their lunches included many of our favorites and that they like hummus too. I think we’ll try to find some Vegemite so that we can try it. I have Marmite, but the Vegemite is harder to find in this area. Do any of the SAGE students know what Vegemite or Marmite is?

I also plan to look for Charlie and Lola books at the library soon. We have seen the Charlie and Lola cartoon and enjoy the characters so I think they will be perfect for family reading time.

I look forward to learning more about all of you.
